Who we are
Mbarara Preparatory School ("the school", "we") runs the MPS parent app (Android package ug.global.mps) and this website. The app lets parents and guardians see information the school keeps about their children. The school is responsible for the information described here. You can reach us at info@mps.ac.ug or +256 786 551 519.
What the app collects and why
| Information | Why we use it |
|---|---|
| Your mobile phone number | To sign you in. A one-time code is sent by Google Firebase to confirm the number is yours. We then use it to find the children linked to you in the school's records. |
| Notification token, device model and an Android device ID | To deliver school notices to your phone and to tell your devices apart if you use more than one. |
| Messages you send to the school | To let the school read and reply to them. |
| Marketplace listings: name, phone, location, description and photo | To publish your listing to other parents in the app once the school approves it. Listings are visible to other app users. |
Information about your children
The app shows information that the school already keeps. This includes your child's name, photo, class, stream, term reports and marks, fees and payments, homework, class videos, timetable and school notices. This information is not collected from children through the app. It is shown only after you sign in with a phone number the school has registered for that child.
What we do not do
- We do not show adverts in the app.
- We do not sell or rent your information or your child's information.
- We do not use your information for tracking or profiling.
- The app does not access your contacts, location, camera roll (except a photo you pick for a marketplace listing), or call log.
Who processes the information
- The school's own server (sch.mps.ac.ug) stores school records, messages, marketplace listings and notification tokens.
- Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Messaging) verifies your phone number and delivers notifications. See Firebase privacy.
- YouTube may play class videos that teachers share as YouTube links.
Information sent between the app and the school's server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
How long we keep it
School records about a pupil are kept as part of the school's records for as long as the school needs them for teaching, reporting and legal purposes. Your notification token and device details are kept while you use the app and are removed when you ask us to delete your access. Messages and marketplace listings are kept until they are no longer needed or you ask us to remove them.
Your choices and rights
- You can turn off notifications at any time in your phone's settings.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by contacting the school. Under Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, you have the right to access and correct your personal data.
- You can ask us to remove your access to the app and delete your app data. See how to delete your account.
Website
When you submit the admissions form on this website, we receive the child's name, date of birth, gender, class applied for and previous school, and the parent's name, email and phone. We use these only to process the application and contact you about it. The website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. The map in the contact section is provided by Google Maps.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
